Job Opportunity: Floor Supervisor

Hours: 6-15 hours per week

Starting Wage: $20

CO*LAB, Community {Arts} Laboratory is an affordable, accessible and inclusive space that provides resources and exposure to the arts within the Boyle Street neighbourhood. Administered by Quarters Arts Society (QAS), CO*LAB, functioning as a citizen-led, community-run facility, connects communities, shares knowledge and ideas, and makes space to collaborate, create, and celebrate in the Boyle Street area.

The Floor Supervisor will join our customer service team. Reporting to the Operations and Facilities Coordinator, they will be responsible for supervising front-of-house staff and volunteers, coordinating with clients during rental events, and ensuring the facilities are in good order before, after, and during events. 

The desired candidate would be able to work a flexible schedule (including evenings and weekends) to provide on-site supervision of CO*LAB during event bookings. These responsibilities will be shared by the Site and Rentals Coordinator and other staff, and availability is not expected for all events hosted by CO*LAB. While we estimate that this position will require 6-15 hours per week, there is potential for the position to grow alongside our organization.

Some of the kinds of events the Floor Supervisor can expect to find at CO*LAB are: music performances of many genres, theatre performances, fashion and model shows, art performances, markets, private meetings and events, workshops and lessons, and community engagement events to name a few.


  • Being the main point of contact for clients during event rentals at CO*LAB.
  • Provide training, oversight, and support for front of house staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee that cash-outs, door counts, and stock counts are properly completed and submitted.
  • Ensure the space is clean and ready for clients before, during, and after events.
  • Welcome clients to the space and introduce them to the facilities, staff, and services.
  • Assisting with setup of rental venues in coordination with clients.
  • Ensure that we provide a safe and respectful space for clients, patrons, staff, volunteers, and community members.
  • Assisting the sound tech with whatever needs to ensure that event remains on schedule. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on a flexible schedule.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Concession/bar sales experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Square point-of-sale system considered an asset.
  • ProTect/ProServe certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the arts is considered an asset.
  • Experience in community engagement and support is considered an asset.
